In my country, Tuspeakinga English ne Luganda!!

i bring you the live conversation of three campus girls at Lutwama's bakery in Wandegeya during lunch break.

Maria; oh naye that ka man can stress? all those assignments-as if we are donkeys?
Jane:I knooow...choka neyesesa as if anything is funny.
Nabossa is silently enjoying her queencake and soda...it cost her 1300/=. that is not to be wasted.
Moving on,

Maria: Nabossa, genda mpola ku queen cake....eh you will choke.
Nabossa smiles but is still chewing a generous amount of the cake.
finally she speaks
Nabossa: meanwhile you guys i have a storo for you. You know how Nankya is stealing people's boyfriends as if..'
Jane..uh huh? tell us Nabby
Nabby: hmph me i sat her down and told her..walahi nenkusanga nowange...ojakundaba...
Jane: atte why were you threatening her???
Nabz:akana kamanyila. sha..ever teeth teething with her friends' men. Nze for me Nabbosa Mankulata Kagwa i wont allow it.

reminds me of some Ugandan girls in Bangalore-fighting for the Kisakye Johns of this world
Moving on;

Jane;by the way there is a way she can kwe do do herself as if she wants attention. I dont like those things...eh Nabby extend those ends someone wants to sit
Nabby; omu extendingila as if he is your father....
Jane; ah just extend.
Maria having been lost through the whole convo
Maria: eh you guys John is taking me out next week to Cafe Roma...i am so excited. atte he has a car, omwana anyilia not like obulenzi ku campus...
*eh i thought when you said omwana anyilila you meant he was at campus*
anyway
Maria; yena teyestressinga...always just there...relaxing....njagala calm men like him...atte you guys have to help me get a dress...anti munaye first date i dont want to blunder...you know those things.
Jane:eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh
Nabby: haaaaaaaa kalabe, bakatwalako outtu

I cannot hear the rest of the convo...i am trying to "extend my chair" but there is no space....
Perhaps tomorrow they will come back to Lutwama's after all, Jane paid for her sausage roll on Hire Purchase system...hehehehe nange namuseeyinze(i saw her)

Lesson learnt: There is a place for the English language in Luganda and i am keeping up best.
New words/phrases: Kwe do do, always just there, the "as if" that's left to hang

till tomorrow
x( mba hugginga)
